The Edge of Barine
The only habitable and open area left in the world of Barine is a small strip of land wrapped around the walled forest Nai-La-Ona on the tallest mountain in the eternal spires to the south. Opposite the forest on all sides is the dark mist that has risen to cover almost the entire world. This small “ring” of land between the mists and the forest Nai-La-Ona is often referred to by it’s inhabitants simply as “The Ring”. Various naming conventions within this society also point to the ring shaped nature of this territory; for instance, the governing body is called the Scleral Council, a clear reference to the ring shaped sclera of the eye.
In addition, their designations for location are primarily referred to as “arcs”; originally there were just two designations, the leeward and windward arcs (and some organizations that have persisted still maintain names that utilized this convention, such as the Leeward Arc Fighting School). However, there are now 4 primary designations based on the cardinal directions, the northern arc, the southern arc, the western arc, and the eastern arc. The accepted standard for location designation is known as the Arc Location System (ALS).
